Army Camps in North will not be removed, says State Minister for Defence, Ruwan Wijewardene
We don’t have any idea of removing the Army Camps in the North. The Government has not taken any action to weaken the National Security there, said the State Minister for Security, Ruwan Wijeyawardene.
It has been decided to integrate units whose number had declined after the war. This will not amount force reduction. Nett number of Army cadres will remain the same.
Neither the President nor the Prime Minister has undertaken activities to intervene in the relocation activities of the Army, and weaken the National Security there. We have no need to revenge the Army. No orders had been given to remove any Army Camp. If more clarification is needed arrangements could be made to obtain them from the Army officers including the Commander of the Army, he said.
