Army cannot continue to occupy North in the guise of security , says former CM, Wigneswaran

The Army cannot be allowed to continue their occupation , having the Easter Sunday attack as an excuse. necessary powers should be granted to the police to ensure the security of the people, said former CM, Justice C.V.Wigneswasran.

Wigneswaran who had issued a press release condemning University students being arrested and detained in Kopay Police under emergency law.

The NP has been militarized to an ultimate level. Routine life and the livelihood of people have been affected by this

We have already seen as to what level the Emergency law has affected the freedom of our people and hoe it led to absolute Human Rights violations. We are concerned whether the arrest of University students signal the return of that era.

Hence I request the Government to withdraw the Emergency  Law as soon as possible and stop harassing innocent people under that Law, he had said.
