Army cannot keep lands saying that they captured them from LTTE

Just because the Army had captured lands from LTTE, they cannot keep them forever. These lands should be handed over to the Government. Their legal owners should be identified and the lands handed over to them, said the CM in the yesterday’s sitting of the NPC.

The Navy had captured and keeping 600 acre land belonging to private people in Mulliwaikkal . I wrote a letter to the relevant Navy Commander regarding these lands. He had replied my letter. I laughed out my heart reading that letter. He had said in that letter that the Navy had captured these lands from the LTTE, and we are keeping the lands because they are needed for National Security.

We have written back saying that just because the lands were captured from LTTE, the Navy cannot keep them. They should be handed over to the Government. The Legal owners should be identified and the lands should be handed over to them. If the lands should acquired there are legal procedures for that and they should be adhered to.
