Army trying to grab 319 acre land in Eravoor, says the former Eastern CM, Naseer

When civil rule is in force , all possible  Army camps should be removed from residential areas. There are several state lands in the district, where Army camps could be established without aggravating civilian residencies. Leaving all those, aiming grabbing lands right at the centre of our town amounts to betrayal to  our people, said the former CM of Eastern Province, Nassr Ahamed.

He also said that, the Army is gearing up to acquire 319 acre lands in Eravoor. He was Participating in a meeting for VIPs, representatives of Mercantile sector, and the village elders, when he said this.

He further said that a decision had been taken in a meeting of the Governor with the President last Thursday, to allocate 319 acre lands in Punnakkudah.

Releasing this land to Army is a gargantuan betrayal perpetrated on our people. Eravoor is in extent of 7.8 Square Kilometres containing 13,200 houses and 52,000 people. to the left and right are living Tamil brother and bounded  behind by the lagoon. We have only the Punakudah area for any development. The Army taking over this land is not acceptable to us.

By army barging into this area, people’s travels will be made difficult. Racial conflicts may be created. This area should be preserved, he said.
