Army village houses handed over : Tamil villages in danger of being grabbed without fanfare

An army settlement, with 51 houses was handed over to army families today by the State Minister of Defence. Because of this fear had been expressed that neighboring Tamil villages will be subjected to plundering in future.

The houses which were constructed under a project called “Sathviru Sanghintha” to honour the sacrifices of the army men who were engaged in army activities in Vavuniya, Kokuveli area are ones which were handed over today.

In a context where 51 houses are constructed in the first stage, 6 of the houses were given  to Tamil girls who joined the Army, 01 to a Tamil girl who married an Army man and rest of them to Army families.

Several people including the State Minister for Defence, Ruwan Wijewardene, the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Karunasena Hetiarachchi, Vanni District MP, Musthan, NPC member Dharmapala Seneviratne, Army officers, the Vavuniya Government Agent, Rohana Puspakumara, State Officers religious dignitaries  participated  in this handing  over ceremony of this housing scheme.
