Arrests by Army and Police to frighten our people: Wigneswaran!

Relatives of those arrested and detained under the Prevention of Terrorism Act met with Parliamentarian and former NPC Chief Minister Justice CV Wigneswaran on Thursday seeking action to release them.

The meeting took place at the Tamil Makkal Koottanii  office in Jaffna.

Wigneswaran said  the following to the media:

The relatives of the arrested  said that those were arrested in Kilinochchi 6,7 months ago under the Prevention of Terrorism Act had not yet been released and they didn’t  commit any crimes.

Those who lived with relatives at home have been arrested and detained.

I have spoken to TIDs about this. What they say is different. They made several allegations that they were associated with the LTTE and that they were in the process of regrouping the LTTE. Some of them were sent to Colombo and some were sent to Tangalle due to corona infection.

No immediate action is taken against those arrested under the Prevention of Terrorism Act. They give harassment, problems, troubles to our people. The reason for that is to make our people fearful. The government is using its forces and police to carry out such activities.

We need to file lawsuits in this regard.  We are taking steps to do this.
