Attack on Aqua Resources Department – Action to arrest Five

The Officer in Charge, Mulaitheevu police said that action is being taken to arrest five person in a first stage in connection with the attack on the Department of Fisheries and Aqua Resources, located on Beach Road Mulaitheevu. Police inquiries were commenced on the day of the attack itself.

Follow up action has been taken in submitting a report to the Mulaitheevu courts and that further inquiries are  conducted and on the basis of the complaint made by Assistant Director of the Department of Fisheries and Aqua Resources, action had been taken to arrest 5 persons who had been named in the complaint, said the police.

Thousands of Fishermen siege and shouted slogans in front of the Department Office demanding to stop illegal fishing and cancel all permits granted to Surukkuvalai Fishing .

The fishermen who waited for long time demanding that officials of the department should meet them, were angered by the failure of the officials in meeting them broke the outer fences , went in attacked the office.

It is notable that assets of the Department had been damaged in the attack.
