Boat docking piers released suddenly in Urany
Further 500 meters of beach containing 4 docking piers was suddenly released by the Army yesterday evening for the use of the people. It was reported that the release in done in conjunction with the Independence Day celebration of the Colombo Government.
Through the release of this beach area 4 docks could be brought into use, the people said. However, the real situation will be known after visiting the area in the morning, they said.
The people of Urany continuously demanded that the Urany area be released to them. On the last Thai Pongal day, Army announced that they are releasing the Urany Harbour area. But they released a rocky area, unsuitable for use by fishermen naming it Urany, the people accused. Further, they were continuously demanding to release the real Urany harbour area.
All of a sudden, the military informed the District Secretariat authorities yesterday evening that the urany area is being released. Thereafter the Vali-North Divisional Secretariat informed the matter to the people. However, while welcoming the release of the Urany beach area, the people said that an area 100 meter wide, between the beach and the Main road is still under the control of the Army. They demanded that this area also should be released.
