Chandrika told about continuing sexual violence by Army and Officials on Woman Leadership families
The Chairperson of the Secretariat for Unity and Reconciliation, Chandrika Kumaranathunga was informed by the Psychological Activists yesterday that the state official, Army and Police are continuing to perpetrate sexual violence against, Northern women, who have been distressed by the 30 years war. These women who had been already affected are being further affected by this.
A discussion was held yesterday between Chandrika, Psychological Activists and public Organizations.
The above things were stated in this meeting.
It was further said in this meeting that, several of the women affected by war are encountering sexual cruelties even today. As far as the Northern Province, the sexual violence against women are more in Mullaitheevu district.
The Army, Police and state Officials stationed in Mulaitheevu, are perpetrating sexual violence against women. Women living alone and women with economical set backs are generally targeted and sexual violence unleashed on them.
With the connivance of state factions, local persons also engage in sexual violence against women. As the dominancy of security forces is prevailing, these women have no chance of being delivered with justice. Due action cannot taken because of this context.
Family violence also has increased after the end of war, They said.
