Speaking at a religious event in a Kollonawa vihare, day before yesterday, Prime Minister Ranil said that, all the parties including the TNA have expressed its consent for preservation of the priority given to Buddhism in the New Constitution. He also said Religious dignitaries of Christian and Islam religions had expressed their consent for this he said.
Sumanthiran refutes Ranil
The TNA has refuted Ranil’s Statement. The spokesperson for TNA, M.A.Sumanthiran said that the TNA never agreed to grant priority to Buddhism, as the Prime Minister says.It was never discussed in the steering Committee formed to drafting of the new constitution. Only, Election reforms, Executive power and Devolution of power were discussed in the Steering Committee, he said.
