Corpses exhumed and sand mined in Cemeteries, Illegal activities continuing in Kilinochchi

The large scale sand robbery that is taking place in various parts of Kilinochchi had left private agricultural lands, irrigation channels, and cemeteries are left damaged beyond use. As this sand robbery is taking place in Thadduvankotty area, on an unprecedented level, in the agricultural lands of the people, the people are unable to undertake any agricultural activities in their lands.

The illegal sand mining hitherto occurring in Pannankandy river bed and the agricultural lands had shifted to the public Cemetery. Sand mining is taking place in the part of the cemetery set aside for the cremation of corpses and the parts where bodies are buried. In the burial ground, unprecedented mining is done, after digging out human remains and bodies.

The sand mining so happening in close proximity of Kilinochchi town, are happening with the connivance of some government officers, said the people living in thr area. Particularly, the sand illegally mined in Pannankandy, Kallaru, Kandawalai areas is loaded into heavy vehicle and taken away along A35 highway through Poonkavanach Chanthi, Paranthan junction and along A35 highway.

Although theses sand mining are reported to the police and high level officers, no action had been taken against them, say concerned factions. Various factions had called for action to contain this illegal activity saying that this is happening with the connivance of people implementing law.
