Cyclone “Purvi” hits the North
Cyclone Purvi generated by the depression formed in the Bay of Bengal entered Sri Lanka, between Trincomalee and Mulaithgeevu yesterday evening.
The cyclone entered through Mulaitheevu and left for Arasbic sea through Mannar.
Heavy rains were lashing the North because of this Cyclone and more rains are expected.
The roofs of few houses in Aathikovilady, Valveddithurai have been blown off 4 persons including two children have been injured in the cyclone. 37 families have been sheltered in a hall.
206 persons belonging to 58 families from Valveddithurai, Point Pedro town and Puloly have been affected by the cyclone.
37 families among them have been displaced to safe areas, the DS, Point Pedro said.
