Demonstration at and siege of, Survey office protesting the land grabbing attempts to provide lands to Army

A surveying was to be undertaken to acquire lands of people at Mankumban, Velanai for Navy without informing the owners of the lands.

The people who got wind of this with the assistance of MPs staged protest and siege at the Jaffna District Survey office in Thirunelvely, Jaffna.

The demonstrators said that they are staging this demonstration to protest against the attempt to grab lands of people all over the Island sector. The Director of the Survey Department who came to the spot said that they are doing what they had been ordered to do but, surveying will not be done contravening the wishes of the owners. as such, the surveying planned for that day will not occur he promised, following which the people dispersed peacefully.

NPC members Kajatheeban and Vinthan with Kajendrakumar and Kajendran of the TNPF, participated with the people in this demonstration.
