Demonstration in Batticaloa demanding release of political Prisoners
A demonstration was staged yesterday demanding the release of Political prisoners detained under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) and Government should give proper answer regarding.
They also had demanded that the International community should exert pressure on the Sri Lanka Government to take action to release Tamil Political Prisoners.
An attention drawing demonstration was held yesterday by the general public in front of the Baticaloa / Valaichenai Divisional Secretariat, demanding the release of Tamil Political Prisoners detained under the PTA.
In this demonstration undertaken by the relatives of person went missing in the Valaichenai area, several mothers from the Valaichenai area also participated.
They carried placards saying:
* Ratify the Tamil home land.
* Don’t destroy the life of Tamils.
* Where are persons who were made to disappear ?
* Release the political Prisoners immediately.
* North and East are our homeland.
* We want merger of North and East.
The Government which came to power on the votes of the Tamil people does not show any interest in the affairs of the Tamil people, said the Organizer of TNPF for Batticaloa District, S.Suresh.
Although we expected that the good governance Government will release the TPPs and deliver justice for the people who had gone missing, they have not taken any action towards this end, said the protesters
