Demonstration demanding to appoint Tamil District Secretary
A demonstration held in Batticaloa yesterday demanding to appoint permanently a Tamil District Secretary. The public and Social enthusiasts held this demonstration near Gandhi Park, yesterday morning.
Mrs. P.S.M.Charles gone on a transfer. Following this a discussion was held between Niel Alwis, the Secretary to Minister of Local Government, Leader of the Opposition and Batticaloa District MP, Gna. Srinesan on the 3rd.
In this discussion the Secretary had said that he cannot listen to what is said by Sampanthan and if they object the person appointed by them, a Sinhalese person will be appointed to that post.
The demonstrators yesterday asked what is holding the Government from appointing a Tamil District Secretary. An efficient Tamil person should be appointed as the District Secretary for Batticaloa where Tamils constitute 75% of the population, they said.
