Disaster Management issue Orange Alert to Jaffna District- Heavy rains and Floods may follow

There is a likelihood of heavy rains in the Jaffna District. If rains come, floods may follow. Hence an Orange Alert has been issue to Jaffna District, said the Assistant Director of Disaster Management Unit. T.N.Sooriyarajah.

He has further said that there is a possibility  of winds with 75 Km/hr speed will lash in the Jaffna District and requested the people to be vigilant.

Although the cyclone Purvi has passed Sri Lanka, it has positioned itself as a high depression in Mannar Bay for 48 hours. If it remain there for another 16 hours, the lecturer of Geography Faculty , N.Pratheeban pointed out.

Particularly there is a likelihood of heavy rains early morning on Sunday and if it will pass through land rains may decline in Jaffna District he said.

It is notable that 173.4 mm rain was recorded in Jaffna Town and the town was inundated with flood waters with flood waters invading the Jaffna Teaching Hospital wards.
