Dissatisfaction over seat distribution-PLOT decides to keep away from Election Propaganda
It is understood that the PLOT will keep away from Election propaganda, in place where the chances of competing had been refused by the ITAK. It is also understood that the party will engage in intensive propaganda only in places where its members are contesting.
The constituent parties of the TNA, PLOT, TELO and EPRLF had earlier agreed to contest together with ITAK as TNA under the House symbol of ITAK. Later this agreement was disintegrated and TELO announced that it will not be contesting along the ITAK .
However a conciliation meeting was held among the constituent parties in Colombo. Later the constituent parties had accused that the ITAK had not distributed seats as agreed.
No seats were allocated to PLOT in Kilinochchi, Mannar and Amparai Districts. It is also said that even in the Districts where seats were allocated , they were lesser than allocated seats. Hence the PLOT had decided to stay away from propaganda wherever seats are not allocated to it.
The Party has not announced this decision publicly but, instructed to their District Organizers covertly about this decision.
When asked to comment on this, the Secretary of TELO, AAL Srikantha said that the ITAK acted in an unjust way with regard to seat distribution, but as an Alliance we will continue to act with joint- responsibility.
