Even if Election violence suspects are candidates, no bail will be given to them: Justice Ilancheliyan
The Jaffna High Court Judge Ilancheliyan said that if someone is arrested relevant to Election Violence, no bail will be granted to them till the end of the election, whether he is a candidate or Voter. He quoted this while refusing a bail application of a suspect who had had 54 Kgs of Ganja in his possession.
Elaborating further he said that granting bails to offences like Robbery, murder, and sword attacks will increase the election violence. Hence bail will not be granted for serious crimes, until the elections are over.
He further said that the cases relevant to these crimes will be taken up for hearing in the Jaffna courts only after February 10th.
