Fasting TPPs to suspend their fasting temporarily
As a consequence of the lockout struggle of the Students of the Jaffna University, the three TPPs who were on fasting for 40 days, at the Anuradhapura prison, have agreed to suspend their fasting temporarily.
The University students have undertaken a paralyzing struggle for the last five years insisting that the just demands of the fasting TPPs be fulfilled and insisting that the release of all TPPs be expedited.
As the first stage of this lock-out struggle, which was undertaken after being cheated by the President, the Students have invited the representatives of Tamil people and held a discussion regarding future action relevant to the TPPs.
They have explained about the responsibilities they anticipated from the representatives and they have obtained relevant assurance , in order to request the fasting TPPs to suspend their fasting.
The representatives, MPs, Ankajan Ramanathan, Sivasakthy Ananthan, Doughlas Devanantha, Northern Province Minister of Education, K. Sarveswaran and MPc, M.K.Sivajilingam participated in the discussion and had promised to accompany the students to Anuradhapura prison to request the TPPs to suspend their fasting.
Further the President of the Students Federation Krishnamenon, on behalf of the students said that, the struggle will be taken forward through all possible methods.
Thus the University students, representatives of people and the relatives of the TPPs will visit the prison to request the TPPs to suspend their fasting.
Meanwhile, the students have strongly condemned the boycotting their Call for the discussion, saying that the Tamil MPs have committed a historical mistake in the boycotting.
