Fishermen of Delft in attention drawing demonstration against trawlers

The delft fishermen affected by the trawler fishing staged an attention drawing demonstration in front of the Delft Divisional Secretariat. They engaged in the struggle bearing placards that said:

“Our families are starving by the trawling !”

“What will happen to our future?”

Commenting on the struggle, the President of the Delft Fisheries Society said that fishermen from Jaffna, Kurunagar , Passayoor, and Navanthurai enter seas off Delft and engage in trawler fishing, damaging our resources. Our livelihood also affected.

Our fishermen who depend on fishing for their livelihood are drastically affected. Although we had undertaken several protest in the past no action had been taken in the past by the relevant factions.

We have engaged in this struggle, after our livelihoods were affected by the impact of the trawler fishing, he said.
