Former militant arrested at Nunavil, Chava, by TID without issuing arresting document in ‘white van’

A former militant was arrested at Nunavil, Chavakachcheri by persons who identified themselves as from the TID on Sunday.

The usual document certifying arrest was not given to the relatives when arresting the militant. Issuing a document certifying the arrest and informing the local police station of the arrest are ‘musts’ under civil administration, said Human Rights lawyers. Rasathurai Jeyanthan(aged 31) of Nunavil,Chavakachcheri   was arrested and taken away in this manner.

Regarding this incident, his wife said that at around 9 a.m. on last Sunday two persons came on motor Cycle and asked my husband who was repairing the fence in the house of a relative, who is Rasathurai Jeyanthan. When my husband said he is Rasathurai Vasanthan, they said they want to make an inquiry.

Although they said they were from the TID, they did not show any identification. About half an hour later a white van bearing no: 69-1010 came and stopped in front of our house. 5 men in civils got down from van and said they want to search the house and after searching the house they took my husband away.

When we asked them as to where they are taking him, they asked us to come to Ariyalai TID office. Now the human rights lawyers had confirmed that he is detained at Boosa, she said.
