Government action to hand over hundreds of acres of land in Palai to Chinese company: Suresh Premachandran exposes

Former Parliamentarian and Leader of EPRLF Suresh Premachandran has said that the Gotabhaya government is in the process of handing over hundreds of acres of land in the Pallai area of the Jaffna district to a Chinese company and Sinhala traders and in order to do so, the Regional Land Reform Commission has been relocated from Jaffna to Anuradhapura.

Suresh stated this at a press conference held in Jaffna today.

He further stated the following:

The Land Reforms Commission owns 3,000 acres of land in the Pallai area. We have received credible information that the government is taking steps to provide land in this area to Chinese and Sinhala investors.

The government is in the process of confiscating the lands of the Tamil people and giving them to the Chinese and Sinhalese.

In Palai, there are 287 acres of coconut plantations owned by the National Land Development Board near the Pudukkad junction. Steps have been taken to give this land to Sinhala investors.

These lands are being handed over to Sinhala investors despite requests from traders in Jaffna.

Efforts are being made to shift the Regional Office of the Land Reforms Commission from Jaffna to Anuradhapura for handling this process without much difficulty. Two military officers have been appointed to lead the commission. This transfer must be stopped. The Regional Office for the North should not be moved to the North Central Province.
