Our History should be documented after Historical researches, says Era Sampanthan , in book release
It is an important need of the contemporary era to historically research into our history, document it and publish it, said the Leader of TNA and Leader of the Opposition, Era Sampanthan.
Further, in the ocean at the base of the Thrukoneswaram, there lay buried debris and historical truths of ancient Thirukoneswaram. There is a need to undertake research tasks to bring them up, he said.
He said so in an event held to release a book titled “ Yaar Intha Ravanan?” (Who is this Ravanan?) authored by Historical Researcher, N.K.S.Thiruchchelvam at Trincomalee day before yesterday, 27th, where he participated as the Chief Guest and while delivering his address.
We have come to know that, when the THirukkoneswarar temple was demolished by the Portuguese in 1624, an Aayiram Kaal Mandapam ( a thousand legged Hall) which was a part of the Temple , was broken up to construct the Fort Fredric.
In the depth of the ocean lay several debris of the Temple and the historical truths of the Temple.
We wish that this research should be held legally. Ravanan is a powerful Tamil King who had ruled over Ilankapuri. He is a devotee of Sivaperuman ( Lord Siva). There are several evidences for this. The “Ravanan Veddu’ on the right of Thirukkoneswaram is one of them.
Ravana had constructed several Sivan Temples in Sri Lanka as well as in India and Indonesia. The practice of worshiping him as God is found in India and several other countries. It is said in the history that he is well versed in Ayurveda medicine. Although history of Rama is widely told in Ramayana, Ravana’s history had not been given in full.
I consider that this book has seen the light to rectify that grievance. I congratulate the Autor N.K.S.Thiruchelvam for his effort in releasing this book, he said.
