Human remains in excavated soil : Further excavations commenced at the Sathosa-Mannar
As human remains were discovered in the soil excavated near the entrance of Mannar Sathosa, further excavations were undertaken yesterday in the presence of Mannar Magistrate Hon. Alex Rajah.
The Sathosa building which was located at the entrance to Mannar Town had been demolished and construction works are in progress at the premises. Excavated soil was sold to private persons. A load of soil heaped in a house in Emil Nagar was found to contain human remains.
On the complaint of the house owner , police and Hon Judge Allex Rajah examined the sites and on recovery of human remains from both places, the building construction was suspended.
The Special JM Specialist and Police expert went with the Hon. Judge Alex Rajah and commenced excavation at the Sathosa premises. Although several remains were detected in the excavation, as water seeped into the pits, action was taken to pump out water. Excavations were suspended by 9.20 a.m.
The Excavations will be continued today, it is reported.
