Illegal Fishing continues despite Minister’s directive
The Northern Fishermen’s Federation have expressed concern over the illegal fishing being continued despite the orders of the Minister of Fisheries, Vijithyamuny de Soysa, to stop them.
Commenting on this the President of the Federation, Thavaselvam said , the minister of Fisheries made a visit to the North on the last 21st, met and spoke to the fishermen. During this visit, the Minister ordered the officials to stop illegal fishing. However the illegal fishing is being continued even today. Beach de mers are caught using powerful lights.
We are concerned over illegal fishing is being done even after Minister’s order, he said.
