It is wrong to say that Tamil Prisoners are in prison for long period without inquiries, says Sumanthiran
The inauguration of the website for updating proposals for reconciliation process and a discussion with Civil Society representatives, headed by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mangala Samaraweera, at the Jaffna District Secretariat today, 12th.
A civil society representative said that the cases of the Tamil political prisoners should be inquired soon. In answer TNA MP, M.A.Sumanthiran said that, it is wrong to say that Tamil Prisoners are in prison for long period without inquiries.
Clarifying further he said that in the prisoners who were in prison for a long time, all except 11 had been released on bail. Those who are in prison now are convicted persons and those cases are in process he said. There are a few who are not charged. They were arrested recently.
We are asking that the others should also be released. But it is getting delayed. It should be done.
It is often said that hundreds of people are in prison without being inquired or charged. That is a wrong information. It should be corrected.
