Kokkuththeevu Bird Sanctuary in Batticaloa burned by unidentified Arsonists

The Birds Sanctuary called Kokkuththeevu located along Muhathuwaram / Palameenmadu beach in Batticaloa police area has been burned down by unidentified arsonist. The people observing the had alerted relevant officers and they fought the fire and extinguished the fire after a struggle lasting few hours.

Considerable numbers of different rare foreign birds come and breed in this island. Particularly they come in the months of November – December period to breed here.

Lot of young bird and large number eggs laid by the Birds have been scorched by this wanton destruction.
