Komagan Released
The former member of the Jaffna Municipal Council, Murugaiyah Komagan, who was detained as a Tamil Political Prisoner ( TPP) was released yesterday from a case against him at the Colombo Special Court, after the only evidence, his confession was rejected by the court as credible evidence. He was released after being in detention for 6 years.
Komagan who won the Municipal Election in 2009 was arrested by the TID on 2010.08.23. Two cases were filed in Vavuniya Court and Colombo High court on the basis of this same confession. Earlier another case, where he was charged for obtaining military training from the LTTE, on the basis of the same confession was thrown out at the Vavuniya Court on 2015/06/26.
In the present case he was charged aiding and abetting the attack on Karuna Group on 2004.10.25, at Wellawatte. All other TPPs had happily bid goodbye Komagan who was released yesterday. Following his release Komagan had pledged that he will work for the release of remaining TPPs.
