Land-grab attempt fizzle at Senthankulam due to people’s opposition
The attempt by the Sri Lanka Navy to acquire the church land at Senthankulam was abandoned by them due to heavy opposition from people.
After the notice was issued for the surveying of the land, the Vali North Resettlement Organization put out a call,to the people to rally at the spot to block the attempt. Accordingly, people had gathered at the spot. Great tension was prevailing at the area and Police had to come to defuse the tension between the people and the SL Navy.
Although, the acts of land grabbing were intensified during the Mahindha Regime those activities were stopped by people and politicians gathering at the respective sites blocking the surveying attempts. But, the same acts are being re-enacted now, while this regime is saying that, no land of the people will be grabbed under their good governance and that they will ensure security of the people.
The above attempt is a stage of the land grabbing act and still another land of 11acre extent, at Thiruvadinilai had been announced to be surveyed on next 10th.
