Land grabbing attempt prevented by people at Vadduvagal, Mullaitheevu

Mulliwikkal people yesterday protested and prevented an attempt to survey 617 acre land for the purpose of establishing a Navy Camp.

The people of Vaddvagal including the 36 owners staged a sit in protest across Vadduvagal Bridge. Because of the people opposition the land surveying attempt was abandoned. politicians from TNA and TNPF also took part in the protest.

The Navy had camped on 617 acre lands belonging to private persons. The navy had commenced activities to acquire this land permanently. The above surveying activity is a fore runner of the acquisition attempt.

The people who staged the protest demanded that the District Secretary  should give an assurance that no acquisition land will be undertaken in the future otherwise they will not budge from this place.

On the direction of the District Secretary, the Accountant, Director – Planning and the Administrative Officer of the Mullaitheevu Secretariat came to the spot. They received the memorandum of people and promised that their problem will be informed to the Government through the District Secretary.

MPs, S.Sivamohan, Selvam Adaikalanathan, Mrs.Shanthy Sriskantharasa, former MP, Vinonokarathalingam, Leader of TNPF, Gajendrakumar Ponnampalam, Deputy Leader of the House, NPC, Anton Jeganathan, and Member, NPC, T,Raviharan participated in this protest in support of the people.
