Let the Minister assure that, investigations will be held on killings of Northern Media men: calls the Northern journalists

Fair investigation had not been done so far regarding the killings of Northern journalists and media workers. The Media Minister Gajantha Karunathileke who is on a visit to North, should assure that fair investigations will be held, insisted the  Northern  journalists.

The Minister had led a group of around 100 Southern journalists to the North and they are scheduled to meet several factions including the Armed Forces. They have also announced that they will erect a commemorative tower in memory of killed Journalists.

The current regime had commenced investigation about the murder of Lasantha and disappearance of Ekneligoda. Several journalists and media employees of the North had been abducted, attacked, and killed in the past. Similarly Media establishments were attacked, smashed up and burnt. But no  action had been taken against them so far.

* 2006 – Uthayan office attacked and two of the staff shot dead on the before International Media
Freedom day.

* 2000 – Journalist Nimalarajan was murdered.

* 2006 – Journalist Sugirtharajan was killed in Trincomalee.

                  Rajivarman was killed and V.Nimalaraj was made to disappear.

                  Regional Office of Uthayan at Kilinochchi was attacked.

The Minister should take action to investigate these crimes and punish the perpetrators, they have requested.
