Mahaweli Development Authority does not have the Authority to colonize people, says Mawai

The Leader of ITAK and MP, Mawai Senathyrasa has said that that the Mahaweli Development Board may have the authority to give water but it cannot be allowed to re-settle people or colonize new colonists.

The plan for colonizing Sinhala people in the guise of Mahaweli Development has been hatched as early as when Gamini Dissanayake was the Minister of Lands. This is not an activity that started yesterday or today. As  per Gamini Disanayake’s plan, 40, 000 Sinhala families were  to be settled in  Mulitheevu. Documents showing these plans are available with us. However it was stopped with3,000  families, due to the  opposition of our leaders.

We have protested directly to the President regarding this   and he has promised to examine thing directly and take action against any misdeeds.

Now lot of people is coming here claiming ownership   apart from the Mahaweli Development Authority. This cannot be allowed, he said.
