Maveerar Day affair – Defence Ministry to handle them – Police withdrew ban application

Point Pedro, Nelliyadi and Valveddithurai Police has withdrawn their application for banning Maveerar Day Celebrations.

Maveerar Day affairs are to be handled by the Ministry of Defence and hence the applications are withdrawn, the police has said in courts.

Commenting on this Senior AAL, Sri Kantha said that the applications were filed by the OICs of the Point Pedro, Nelliyady and Valveddithurai Police stations under section 106 – Public Nuisance of the Criminal Procedure Code of Sri Lanka.

Following arguments in the Point Pedro court, the police said they are withdrawing the applications.

On the basis of One Country – One Law, police should avoid filing such applications, Sri Kantha said.

Mallakam court has made a favorable order allowing  Maveerar day observation with conditions, he further said.
