Mediamen banned from President’s meeting

Permission was refused to media men to cover the meetings of President at the Jaffna District Secretariat and the Governors Secretariat, yesterday. The media men were stranded on the road, without being informed of the reason for the ban.

The president accompanied by some Central Ministers and along with TNA MPs held a meeting, in the District Secretariat regarding Development work in the North. Media men were refused permission to cover this meeting as well as the meeting, where the president met the Representatives of relatives of missing persons. The media men were abruptly stopped on the roads by the security officers.

Matters related to development and day to day problems were discussed at this meeting. While on the days of such meetings, it is usual to allow the media men to cover the meetings. It is not cleared why they had not been allowed to yesterday’s meeting. This had caused much heartburn to the Media men in general.
