Missing Persons cannot be found, Impartial Inquiries on accused, OMP Commissioner, Saliya Pieris 

While saying that the missing persons cannot be found, the chairman of the Office For Missing Persons(OMP) also said that impartial inquiries will be held on accused.

A meeting between the relatives of missing persons and the Commissioner of the OMP, Saliya Pieris was held yesterday at the Weerasingam Hall.

Speaking further he said the OMP is mandated to inquire about, People who went missing during the war in North and East, people who went missing during various riots that occurred in Sri Lanka, People who went missing during the war and people who were made to disappear .

I will not promise that I will provide immediate solutions, but, deeper inquiries will be made.

Our Commission has more powers than others appointed so far. Our main objective is to inform the relative as to what had happened to their kins. This is a difficult task. We will try as much as possible to find the missing persons.

Secret inquiries will be made. Witnesses will be protected. We shall make recommendations for a fair solution.

Whether the accused are military or Ministers or Secretaries to Ministries, we have the power to inquire them. There may be hindrances posed against inquiring the Military, but, we are ready to encounter them and deliver justice

We are set up 3 offices in the Easyt and 5 in the North and one of them will be in Jaffna.

Our Office is permanent. People must believe it. They must cooperate with us. Let us all get together , give pressure and obtain solutions.
