Mullaitheevu courts orders that details of surrendees including Elilan should be submitted on 14th
The Mullaitheevu District Court had ordered that the derails of LTTEers, including the former Trincomalle Political Leader, Elilan, who surrendered to the Army at the end of the war should be submitted to court on 14th.
Further the court had ordered the Commander of the 58D, relevant to this case , Major General Chanakkya Gunaratne should be present in court on the 14th, failing which an arrest warrant will be issued against him.
Ananthy Sasitharan, the wife of Elilan had filed Habeas Corpus for the former militants who had surrendered to the Army at the end of the war, including the LTTE’s Trincomalee Political Leader Elilan and the case taken up yesterday for trial before the Mullaitheevu District Court.
It was submitted in courts that the major General Channakkya Gunaratne had not appeared in court as his attorney is abroad and due to the floods situation emergencies in the country. Intervening here the counsel for the affected said that his party had come to the court amidst all the difficulties and that the major with all the facilities at his disposal had not come to the court.
Considering the submissions the court ordered the case be postponed to 14th and instructed that Major General Gunaratne should be present in courts that day will all the details of people surrendered to the Army, on that day and warned that an arrest warrant will be issued against him if he fails to attend court on that date.
