Mullaitheevu Fishermen’s problem- motion to be tabled in Parliament, says TNA

Action will be pursued to set aside one day to debate the problem of the Mullaitheevu fishermen. a motion will be tabled during the adjournment time, said the spokesman of the TNA M.A.Sumanthiran, in reply to fishermen’s complaints..

A discussion was held yesterday at the Mullaitheevu Fisheries Societies Union office yesterday, with the participation of Vanni District MPs, on the problems faced by the Mullaitheevu Fishermen and the injustices caused to them by the Army.

The Mullaitheevu fishermen explained to the MPs the problems confronting them. The instructions given by the Minister of Fisheries on his visit here on last 2nd were not implemented they said .They also said that, while they are be prevented from doing drag net despite having proper permission, Southern Fishermen are coming with their families everyday and with the connivance of the Army setting up Wadis and engage in illegal fishing like Light – Fishing, they complained.

MPs Adaikalanathan, Charles Nirmalanathan, Dr.C.Sivamohan, Mrs.Shanthy Sriskantharasa and the Deputy Leader of the House, NPC, Antony Jeganathan participated in this discussion with the Fishermen.
