Mullivaikal Genocide commemorated sentimentally in North and East
The Mulliwaikal Genocide commemorative events are being conducted sentimentally in all parts of North and East.
The prime event was held at the site of the Mulliwaikal Genocide, with the NPC, CM, Justice C.V. Wickneswaran leading the happenings. Representatives of civil society and the TNA participated.
The main commemorative flame was lighted by justice CV Wigneswaran at around 10.30 AM. Following him the TNA Parliamentarians, and the Members of the NPC lighted flames of sacrifice. Earlier, the CM, Justice Wickneswaran visited Keerimalai coast in the morning and indulged in special religious rites held for those who had fallen in the Genocide.
Meanwhile the Mullivaikal commemoration event organized by the Tamil National People’s Front was held at Vadamaradchi East with the participation of large number of senior leaders of the Front and general public.
University of Jaffna community also remembered those fallen at Mulliwaikal lighting sacrificial flame in front of the main hall, followed by other events in the Kailasapathy hall. Large number students and Lectures participated in the event where some important memorial orations were delivered.
Mullivaikal commemoration was held in Vavuniya today (18/5) at noon. Organized by the Hindu prelates Federation of Vavuniya and the Tamil Virudcham Social Enthusiast Organization, it was held at Vavuniya Katkuli Mahamari Amman Temple, held under the leader ship of Hindu Prelates Federation. Large number of people including President Pirapahrak Kurukkal, The Trustee of the Temple, Aiyampillai , President of Tamil Virudcham Social Enthusiast Organization, S. chandrakumar and general public participated and indulged in religious rites for the peace of the souls of the fallen.
Hundreds of Tamils lit oil lamps and gave offerings of flowers during a ceremony in Puthukkudiyiruppu to commemorate their beloved ones who were massacred during the final war in 2009. The event, which started at 12 PM, had been organised by Northern Provincial Council Minister P. Deneswaran. Northern Provincial Council Chief Minister C.V. Wigneswaran , TNA MP Mavai Senathiraja and many others also attended the event and lit earthen lamps and offered flowers.
A commemorative event was held in Mannar Town Hall where Tamil politicians and civilians gathered in under heavy surveillance of the Sri Lankan military at 10 AM. The event had been organised by S. Sivaharan of Illankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi.
