New crisis in seat allocation: Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kadchi asks for 7 in Jaffna
It is expected that a resolution passed in the Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kadchi conference held in Trincomalee yesterday, asking for an allocation of 7 seats in the candidates’ list for Jaffna district for the forthcoming General Election. Although a final decision was not made so far among the constituent parties of the TNA, it discussed earlier regarding granting 6 seats to Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kadchi 2 to EPRLF and one each to TELO and PLOT.
In this conjuncture, a suggestion to allocate 7 seats to Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kadchi and one each to EPRLF, TELO and PLOT, had been ratified by the members of the party. However, in a context where the Leader of the EPRLF, insisting that EPRLF should be allocated 2 seats, this resolution of the Federal Party is expected to create a crisis situation.
Meanwhile, it had been decided in the conference of the Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kadchi that, the party should be allocated 3 seats in Vanni and 5 seats each in Trincomalee, Batticaloa and Amparai Districts.
TNA parliamentarians and the members of the NPC and EPC will be meeting in Vavuniya, on 6th July at 10.00 a.m., to reach a final decision on the allocation of seats and draw the plans for the election.
Important matters will be taken into consideration in this meeting and final decisions will be made, said a Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kadchi stalwart to “Samakalam” this morning.
