North and East Cannot be merged , says Rauff Hakeem firmly
The merger of North and East will not be possible through any kind of demand put forward by any one including the Northern Chief Minister Wigneswaran, said the Leader of Sri Lanka Muslim Congress and Minister, Rauff Hakeem.
In a context where his party is in negotiation with the TNA, the Leader of Sri Lanka Muslim Congress and Minister, Raub Hakeem has said that without the majority in Parliament, North and East could never be merged.
A special programme with a theme of “Lets preserve water as we preserve our lives” has been inaugurated under the Minister of Water Supplies and Drainage, Rauff Hakeem.
He was speaking in a media conference to introduce the program, in Kandy.
Elaborating further, he said the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress originated because the North and East was merged amidst the opposition of the people of Eastern province. The Muslim people are in an opposing stance to the merger of North and Eastern Provinces. Apart from that a majority should exist in the Parliament to merge the provinces. Hence an alternate solution should be found without merging the provinces he said.
