NPC totally rejects the Pre-fabricated Houses of Ministry of Resettlement: Calls for reconsideration of procedure

A resolution had been adopted in the NPC, to the effect that the NPC is totally rejecting the 65,000 Prefabricated housing Project of the Ministry of Resettlement. The Housing scheme should be reviewed in consultation with the NPC. No further action should be taken on this project, the resolution says.

Member Asmin said that the advice was not sought from the local government bodies. However  Rs 2,100,000 is too much of expenditure for a house of 550 square feet. We were not consulted when this scheme was started. Our Engineers had evaluated the house and had submitted a report pointing out several shortcomings.

Leader of opposition Thavarasa asked the house, not to reject the scheme but to point out shortcomings. Leader of the House C.V.K.Sivagnanam said that, we are not rejecting the scheme but asking to consult us and review the scheme. Finally the resolution was passed unanimously.
