Office of the Society for searching Relatives made to Disappear open in Mannar
The Office of the Society for searching relatives made to disappear was opened in Mannar, Yesterday.
The Office was opened with a demand of either the government should return the relatives who were made to disappear during Vanni War or be accountable for them at Chavakadu, Mannar.
After the end of the war, people handed over their relatives to the Army before coming into the Army controlled area, at Mulliwaikkal. Without knowing what had happened to them, wives are searching for husbands and parents their children and had been engaged in struggles in all districts of Tamil areas.
In the context of the Government dragging on time without providing solution, the people had established this office to take concrete actions on their relatives.
From the day of the announcement of the opening of this office, murder threats had been made by phone to all organizers of the Office. Although there are 250 families with relatives made disappear, few had not participated due to the threats.
Rev. Fr. Jeyabalan, tha Parish Priest, NP Minister of Health, V.Gunaseelan, MPc, P. Deneeswaran, Mannar Town Council chairman, G.A.Davidson, former MP, Vino, and the president of the Mannar Federation of Public Organizations, V.S.Sivakaran and several others participated in the event.
