Own lands in Police control, 2 families may lose housing scheme
A situation has been created in Mullaitheevu, where 2 families may lose houses granted under housing scheme because their land had been occupied by the police. These families had requested that arrangements be made to release their lands currently occupied by police, so that they can get the houses granted under Housing Scheme
The Mulaitheevu Police and the ASP’s Office are located in 1 acre land owned by 4 families who are currently living with their friends and relatives. When the people started resettling the police offices were located in these lands. The owners earlier requested the police several times to hand over their land but the police had always said that they could be released only after re-locating their buildings elsewhere.
The Mullaitheevu District Secretariat is undertaking a survey to grant houses and two out of 4 families have a chance of getting house. But to get the houses they should be in possession of own lands, the relevant officers had said. Following this the families have renewed their request to release the lands.
