Peninsula people in fear Psychosis – Five major crimes in two days- properties worth 5M damaged
A tense situation is continuing to be present in the Jaffna peninsula and its people are frozen into a fear psychosis due to the continuing and unabated violence perpetrated by Sword slashing groups. In the last two days five major violence had been committed and more than 5 Million worth of properties had been damaged.
Intellectuals and general public have accused that the violence has gone beyond all limits and violence have been committed with a powerful background and the lethargic approach to crimes of the police is main reason behind the steep increase of Crimes.
The violence created by an 8-member sword group have prevented the free movement of people. If these violence are not controlled they may create massive impacts they said.
* Day before yesterday, three houses in Aarukaal Madam were damaged and furniture and motor cycles were smashed up.
* A group had broken into a house and had damaged and set on fire a Hi-ace van parked in front the
house.
* This group had then gone to the office of the Vannarponnai East Grama Officer – J/100, had placed a sword at the throat of the GO and had damaged his Laptop, phone and an auto parked in front of the
Office.
* Robbers had broken into a house in Vaddukoddai while the residents were away and had made good their escape after robbing 31 sovereigns of jewellery and Rs.200,000/= between 9.00 a.m. and 10a.m.
* A group of people had gone into Point Pedro Base Hospital and had attacked a person receiving treatment.
Further boat of a fisherman been burned in Vadamaradchchi East. The owner had opposed Southerners fishing in Vadamaradchchi.
