People break into land encroached by Coconut Development Board, in Karanthai, Palai, undertake sit – in struggle

People had broken into lands belonging to them, which were encroached by Coconut Development Board at Karanthai, Palai and had undertaken a sit in struggle constructing a shed in side the lands.

Around 90 acre of lands belonging to the people were ‘encroached’ by Coconut Development Board after the end of the war. Even after the resettlement of people, these lands were not released to the owners.

Although a decision was taken in the DDC meeting, that lands should be released, the Coconut Development Board had not released these lands.

Consequently people had gone into the lands at around 6 a.m. yesterday and had constructed a shed in these lands.
