People of Iranaitheevu joins the strugglers with their own fasting protest yesterday

The people of Iranaitheevu commenced their fasting protest yesterday, demanding them to be allowed return to their ancestral lands and engage in fishing from there.

Thus they have joined a host of protesters demanding their Lands, release of prisoners and finding the persons made to disappear after being handed over to the Security Forces.

The families of Iranaitheevu who were made to displace from Iranaitheevu in 1992, acre living currently at the Iranai Matha Nagar in Mulankavil. These people are demanding to be allowed to go their ancestral lands, from 2009, after the war.

Following their continuous demands at the village, divisional and district level meetings it was decided that the co-chairs of the Coordination Committee to visit Iranaitheevu. Later it was informed that the Navy will not allow this visit. Some politicians who returned from the visit to Iranaitheevu promised that they will get the approval for the people to go to their ancestral lands.

However, after all the promises had failed, the people had opened their fasting protest yesterday.
