People stop Secret attempt to construct Buddhist Temple in Mulaitheevu/ Kurunthoor Malaiin with ancient Hindu Temple

A secret attempt to install a Buddha’s Statue in the Mulaitheevu/ Kurunthoor Malai which consists of an ancient Hindu Temple had been beaten off by the Tamil people of the area. Twelve persons including 2 Buddhist monks who had identified themselves as Archaeological Department officials had travelled in two vehicles and attempted to stay in Kurunthoor Malai and construct a Vihare on this hill, where an ancient Hindu Temple is standing.

The people of the area had stopped them detained them and later handed over them to the police. Tension prevailed in the area. The 12 persons had come with all the arrangements to stay and build the vihare including a big Buddha statue.

People informed the NPC member T.  Ravikaran and they joined together, stopped the vehicles and handed over the vehicles and the 12 persons to the police who arrested them.

Kurunthoor malai which come underMulaitheevu, Thaneerootu area, is an area where Hindu people had traditionally live. There is a very ancient Hindu Temple on the hill. Tamil people had worshiped there for a very long time. The people were displaced during war time and they are slowly resettling now. School and other buildings are still standing there.

Such secret attempts to invade Tamil areas are continuing, said the MPc, T.Ravikaran.
