People voted against us because we supported the Government-Truth must be accepted- Sampanthan

Although we supported the Government, the Government did not fulfil its duties and because of that people had voted against us in the LG Polls. We must accept the truth.

As per the promises it had given to the UN before Sri Lanka should provide a due solution on the basis of Self Determination before 2019. Otherwise, we all should work together to pressurize the International community to get a solution for us, insisted Era Sampanthan yesterday.

He said so while speaking to the gathering after opening the Statue of the former first ever Tamil Leader of the Opposition and the former Leader of the TULF, Late Amirthalingam, installed in front of the Vali-west Pradeshiya Sabai.

I am very happy in opening the Statue of Late Amirthalingam today. We are travelling on the footsteps of the Leaders who lived in a way to speak about our history. Amirthalingam was very firm in the NE Merger.

The Government should brief the Sinhalese people on the actual situation. They should explain to them in detail, the injustices meted out to Tamil people. Providing justice to Tamil people is the duty of the Government. They cannot deny that duty.

We should provide our unity and strength to the Government so as to gain our rights on the basis of the promises of the International Community, he said.
