Police Patrol fired at in Palai. No suspects arrested & Army massed for search

Tension prevailed in  Kachchai area in Palai, after Police, STF and Army were massed there for search operations following a shooting on a police patrol at Kachchar during few minutes after mid night yesterday. Three shots from a T56 were fired on a police patrol which had halted on A9 road from a bush nearby.

Following this incident Army Police and STF were massed and search operation were undertaken with vehicles passing the area being stopped and minutely searched.

Tracking dogs were also engaged to search the whole of Kachchar Velly.

Before the first light army announcement were heard asking the residents not move out of their houses. When the people came out in the morning, the area was found to be flooded by soldiers.

No mishaps were reported due the operation, which extended until 8.00 a.m. Although no one was arrested, the police said that search ins continuing.

We were frightened because of the search operation resembling those of the war period, said the area people.
