‘Pongu Thamizh’ Memorial tower in Jaffna University Premises

The University students are constructing a memorial tower at the spot where a sign board was put up in memory of the famous “Pongu Thamizh” event.

During the period of  Liberation Tigers, Pongu Thamizh was celebrated as the Tamil National Uprising day. Several youths were cold bloodedly murdered by state forces and several fled the country. Thereafter a memorial sign board was placed in memory  of the Pongu Thamizh  uprising day held during the Days of the Liberation Tigers, in the University premises which played a major role in the Pongu Thamizh celebration.

It is notable that a tower is being constructed in memory of the Pongu Thamil, by the students at the site of the sign board. This activity of the students had been welcomed by all factions.
